Papier jest materiałem powszechnie występującym, łatwym w produkcji, niedrogim i przyjaznym środowisku. Główny składnik papieru – celuloza – uznana jest za najczęściej występujący organiczny polimer na kuli ziemskiej, w związku z tym za niemal niewyczerpalny surowiec naturalny. Właściwości fizyczne papieru i produktów papierowych masowo wytwarzanych przez przemysł papierniczy, a także przykłady zastosowania papieru jako materiału budowlanego w zrealizowanych obiektach wskazują, że papier może być z powodzeniem stosowany jako materiał konstrukcyjny oraz materiał budowlany w różnych aplikacjach architektonicznych. Mając na uwadze zarówno ograniczenia jak i szanse, wynikające z charakterystyki tego materiału, a także intensywny rozwój przemysłu papierniczego w kierunku produkcji papierów mocnych, opakowaniowych, można uznać, że papier i jego pochodne mają szanse stać się przyszłościowym materiałem budowlanym.

Paper is a common material, easy to produce, inexpensive and environmentally friendly. The main component of paper – cellulose is considered to be the most commonly occurring organic polymer on the Earth, and therefore an almost inexhaustible natural resource. The physical properties of paper and paper products, produced by the paper industry, as well as successful examples of the use of paper as building material, indicate that paper can be successfully used as structural and building material in various architectural applications. Bearing in mind both the constraints and the opportunities arising from the characteristics of this material and the intensive development of the paper industry in the direction of the production of strong, packaging papers, it can be assumed that paper and its derivatives have the potential to become a future building material.
