Celem pracy jest pokazanie procesów i ich efektów wynikających z modernizacji, obejmującej przemiany funkcjonalne oraz estetyczne obiektów użyteczności publicznej z uwzględnieniem jakości przestrzeni publicznej. Obserwowana ilość zmian wprowadzanych w budynkach istniejących skłania do poszukiwań prawidłowości w tym obszarze aktywności projektowej. W założeniu do badań wybrane zostały obiekty przebudowywane na terenie Polski, choć dla ilustracji nie wyklucza się przywołania interwencji zagranicznych.

The project's aim is to illustrate the problems associated with modernization and their effects, encompassing shifts in function and aesthetics, including those associated with the question of the quality of public spaces.The observed number of changes that are implemented into the structures of existing buildings draws the author into a search of proper methods within this field of design activity. The Project's focused was turned to a selection of reconstructed buildings on the territory of Poland, although, for illustrative purposes, foreign examples are also mentioned.
