Intellectual property

The issue of intellectual property is a large area. The Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO (new window) defined the concept of intellectual property as a set of rights relating to:

  • literary, artistic and scientific works,
  • inventions in all fields of human activity,
  • scientific discoveries,
  • industrial designs,
  • trademarks and service marks, trade names and commercial property description,
  • protection against unfair competition.

Intellectual property is divided into two basic categories:

  • author's property rights – it is protected by the regulations of copyright and related rights (new window),
  • industrial property – it is protected by the regulations of industrial property rights (patent law, trademark law, industrial design law)

Databases, the know-how rights and personal rights are also protected within intellectual property in Poland.
