Open Science Week
21-27 October, 2019 - Open Science Week was held under the slogan: Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge.
Open Access Week is an international initiative implemented by universities, scientific units and libraries around the world. Its purpose is to promote open access to scientific content. It is implemented by promoting initiatives aimed at exchanging ideas and solutions dedicated to science. This initiative encourages cooperation between scientists and citizens.
Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge
This year's Open Science Week focused on equality and justice and the search for excluded groups. Openness of science has been considered a positive option for many years. Open access to scientific content assumes openness at all stages of work and scientific communication. The chance to exchange information of a diverse global community is currently increasing – i.e. scientists, experts, entrepreneurs, investors, teachers, students, pupils and and all people potentially interested in science.
At present, there is talk about Open Science, Open Access, and Open Innovation, i.e. models conducive to the functioning and development of a democratic knowledge and economy society, a society creating ideas and values as well as creating products and technologies.
Openness - understood as an access to publications and scientific materials, educational content and resources, raw research data, databases and software - is possible thanks to systems and tools constantly developed in the IT industry. Open systems are created in scientific institutions and libraries, ensuring the possibility of depositing scientific materials and universal access to them - so-called publication repositories and research data repositories.
On the occasion of the Open Access Week, the CUT Library encouraged students, PhD students and academics to:
- get acquainted with the Open Access Policy at the Cracow University of Technology (new window);
- browse the resources of the CUT Repository, including collections created as part of the EDT project (new window);
- visit the information stand of the CUT Library dedicated to OA;
- participation of the CUT employees in the OA survey;
- take part in the online course developed by the CUT Library European Heritage (new window) (available after log-in as a guest);
